The People of Israel still exist at the far ends of the earth, and some of them left indelible marks
throughout the world, in synagogues, cemeteries and especially in individual Jews who still preserve
the tradition of their Jewish communities and customs.
Rabbi Eliahu Birnbaum
researcher of the history of the Jewish people and their communities,
serves as a rabbinical court judge in Israel’s Chief Rabbinate, and heads the Straus-Amiel Institute
for training rabbis and educators in the Diaspora He continues tirelessly in his educational journeys
around the world, journeys to discover communities and strengthen them, uncovering anecdotes
and unbelievable stories in Jewish history.
Rabbi Birnbaum and his team try not to leave a single Jew or a single Jewish heritage story
undocumented. The Journeying Jew tells the stories of Rabbi Birnbaum’s adventures as he
embarks on his personal journey to far-flung Jews and Jewish communities, bring their unique
personal and communal journeys to the screen.
Beyond assisting and encouraging individuals and communities, Rabbi Birnbaum continues to
establish an educational legacy perpetuating the history of the Jewish people and passing the
legacy of Jewish communities and their fascinating story forward to future generations.
First and second season
For over a decade, Rabbi Birnbaum's travels have been documented by producer and director
Nati Malchi and the "Nati Productions"
teams – together producing fascinating, challenging, educational
and emotional programs, often bringing a smile to the face or a tear to the eye.
The first twenty episodes were broadcast with millions of views both on Channel 14 (formerly
Channel 20) and mainly on YouTube, where they received praise and acclaim from thousands of
excited and enthusiastic viewers, from the Prime Minister of Israel to Jews around the world.
The journeys’ films are used internationally as educational material in Jewish heritage classes, and
are even used by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs as educational preparation for Israeli
emissaries and diplomats to countries around the world.
Third - new season
The time has now come to embark on a new and fresh travel season, one that sees Rabbi
Birnbaum venture deeper into uncharted territory, revealing untold stories of Jewish resilience, faith,
and triumph. It will be broadcast and studied through various media outlets, boosted by
encouragement from educational institutions, media and private supporters.
Their support, however, is not enough.
