Yeshivat Avinoam Evyatar Commemorates Maoz Morell Hy”d
Yeshivat Avinoam was founded in 2018 by Rabbi David Amitai and is part of the Beit Midrash Elon Moreh institutions.
As part of our vision, we led the establishment of the community of Evyatar, the only new settlement officially approved by the Israeli government in the past two decades. We have fought tirelessly to make it a permanent home for the yeshiva. After a long and arduous battle, temporary structures were set up to house our Torah learning – and we are still using these temporary structures today.
At the outbreak of the war, our momentum was abruptly halted. Many of our students and rabbis were called to extended military service. In the midst of the long months of war, we suffered a devastating loss – our dear friend, Staff Sergeant Maoz Morell z”l.
Maoz, a dedicated warrior in the Paratroopers’ Special Forces Unit, fell in battle on the 11th of Adar I, 5784 (February 20, 2024), in an act of heroic bravery in southern Gaza. He was just 22 years old.
In his memory, and in deep commitment to continuing his unique spirit, we remain steadfast in our belief that only through Torah – and with the strength that Torah gives us – we will continue, with Hashem’s help, to inherit this Land. Now, more than ever, we must strengthen and expand the yeshiva with renewed courage and determination.
